Jan 3 (Bernama) -- A total of 482,514 pupils and students will begin the new school year tomorrow in 1,448 schools in Sarawak. Sarawak education director Abdillah Adam said today 263,774 of them will be starting primary school and 218,740, secondary school. The primary school enrolment involves 192,668 pupils in 1,039 national schools and 71,106 pupils in 221 national type Chinese schools, he said in a statement. He said 218,740 students have registered to attend 184 ordinary secondary schools; 1,012, seven religious secondary schools; 738, fully residential schools; and 296, an arts school. The teaching manpower in the state will comprise 37,333 trained teachers and 2,361 replacement teachers, he said. -- BERNAMA
